Curriculum Catalyst

Creating curriculum ideas together.

The Curriculum Catalyst is about crowd-sourcing topic ideas – creating a resource that can be printed off, yes printed, to form the basis for more detailed planning. With the English primary curriculum in a period of flux we are in a great position to push the creative agenda more and more – online networks allow us the opportunity to collaborate on a simple resource to support this.

Catalysed Topics

  1. SEALIFE
  2. IMAGINARY CREATURES
  3. ENDANGERED
  4. SURVIVAL
  5. CASTLES

Stage 1

An opportunity to contribute and vote for the most interesting or relevant curriculum topic ideas. These will then be the focus of development by the wider education community.

Go to the Google Moderator and there are…

Two things you can do:

1) Contribute a curriculum topic idea + description

2) Vote for you favourite, most interesting or most relevant topic idea

Stage 2

After a period of voting we will focus on the top topic and crowd-source an ideas map. This will be a collection of subject related ideas in a simple format that could be a catalyst for further more detailed topic planning.

I’m struck, and curious, about your condition: “…that can be printed off, yes printed,…”.

I run a website, VocabularySpellingCity.com, which we think of as being one of the niftiest online resources with an architecture that allows any word list to be used by any of 25 online learning activities (with more in the works..).  As an afterthought, we made almost all of the activities printable.  We are astonished to learn that in fact, the printing capability is one of the most popular features of the site.Do you think that this is on the cusp of changing or is paper and pencil work going to be the mainstream activity for another half decade? Your views?  I have mostly developed ed materials for the homeschool world where computers tend to be plentiful but printing tends to be viewed as expensive.

    Hi
How many LSEN (Learners with Special Needs Education) is here?
55% of children failing their Standard Assessment tests (SATs) in the UK are dyslexic, according to a new study published by Hull University.
Yet it doesn’t have to be that way.
What would you like to say?

Guy thanks for your comment. Moderator is fairly new to me but I think it works on a simple level with SERIES being the top level organisation. Within that series you can create EVENTS, MEETINGS or TOPICS in which you and your users can contribute IDEAS, QUESTIONS or STATEMENTS (all set by editing the series)

I suspect that the Moderator may be inheriting the default privacy settings of the other Apps. That may be the reason you need to sign in to access them.

I have been contemplating Google Moderator a bit recently. Facilitated online discussion, crowd sourcing, and even a 'blended' approach for a live events or lectures are great ideas and take the simple survey tool to the next level for sure. However, I have yet to fully get a handle on the Moderator interface and structure. It seems a bit confusing, which is odd because it is so simple and clean. I have hope for improvements as this tool matures.

Meanwhile, quick question if you don't mind. Is there a trick to offering a Public Series? We have Moderator included as part of our Google Apps install at Arizona State University. However, all Series seem to require a login to be accessed. Any tips on that front would be appreciated.

    Thanks.
